Since then this goddess came to be called Katyayani. Maharishi Katyayan ji wished that Bhagwati should be born in his house as a daughter. The goddess accepted his prayer and after taking birth on Ashwin Krishna Chaturdashi, on Shukla Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, Katyayan sage worshiped him for three days, on Dashami Devi killed Mahishasura and freed the deities from the atrocities of Mahishasura. The form of Maa Katyayini is very divine and as bright as gold.
