Today’s era is about having faith and faith in God. And every human being has become a worshiper of some or the other deity, similarly in this world there are a lot of people who believe in Lord Shiva and to keep him happy, people keep anointing his Shivling with milk, water etc.
But do you really know that all the Shivlings of Lord Shiva are found only in the Narmada river. Let us know why is this so ?
In ancient times, the Narmada river did a lot of penance for Lord Brahma, pleased with his penance, Brahma asked him to ask for the boon he wanted. On this Narmada ji asked him for a boon to be equal to Ganga ji. Then in response to this, Brahmaji said with a smile, ‘If any other deity equals Lord Shiva, then another person becomes equal to Lord Vishnu,If any other woman can be like Parvatiji and another city can be like Kashipuri, then anyone can be like Ganga.’ And he refused to grant this boon.
On this Narmada became angry and Kashi came and got engaged in penance of Lord Shiva’s Shivling at Pipilpilatirth. Pleased with his penance, Lord Shiva asked him to ask for a boon. On this Narmada told him that my devotion should remain in your lotus feet. Give me this boon. Pleased with this, Lord Shiva said that all the stones on the banks of Narmade areAll of them will become my Shivling form from now on. And in the coming tomorrow, people will come to worship these Shivlings from here and all the sins will be washed away by your mere sight of the people, all these Shivlings will be the ones who give that virtue and salvation.
