Sambhaji Bhosale (or Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj) was the second ruler of the Maratha Empire and the son of Shivaji. He is considered to be the strongest rival of Aurangzeb. He had established his authority over Bijapur and Golconda, two important forts of the Mughal Empire. Sambhaji is known for his bravery. Despite the cruelty of Aurangzeb, Sambhaji did not convert his religion. Eventually, at the age of 31, Aurangzeb got Sambhaji murdered.

Sambhaji Bhosale was born on 14 May 1657 in Pune. Sambhaji was born to Shivaji’s first wife, Saibai. Two years after his birth, his mother Saibai died. All his upbringing was done by Shivaji’s mother i.e. Bhosale’s grandmother Jijabai. He was also a Sanskrit scholar, art lover and a brave warrior. At the age of only 14, he wrote three books namely Buddhabhushan, Satshatak, Nayikabhed which were in Sanskrit.
 

At the coronation of Shivaji Maharaj on June 6, 1674, he was declared the prince of the Maratha Empire. As a prince, Sambhaji proved his bravery and military talent. He won his first battle at the age of 16 at Ramnagar. As a child, he was called Chhava which means child of the lion.

When Shivaji died, Sambhaji was kept captive in the Panhala Fort. After this, Sambhaji’s stepmother, Sorabai had made her 10-year-old son Rajaram the heir to the Maratha kingdom and as soon as Sambhaji got the news, after hearing this, she captured the Panhala fort and formalized with 20,000 soldiers. ascended the throne

The death of Sambhaji Maharaj was a brutal event. Aurangzeb captured Sambhaji and his friend and humiliated them in many ways.

This included taking out the eyes and tongue, removing their nails and removing their skin. Raje was very much attached to Hinduism, so he is called the legend of Hinduism, he was not ready to convert to another religion till his last breath. The history of Sambhaji Maharaj is important in Maratha history because after his sacrifice Maratha soldiers opened fire and stood against the Mughals.

Sambhaji was sharp and brilliant since childhood. He had acquired the knowledge of scriptures and war in his childhood.
Sambhaji’s wife’s name was Jiwajibai but according to Maratha customs she took her name as Yasubai.
It is also said that Prince Akbar (son of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb) who had rebelled against his father took refuge from Sambhaji.
Sambhaji made the first bulletproof jacket.
Sambhaji Maharaj had also made light guns.
He had also composed the texts “Budhbhushan”, “Nakhshikh”, “Nayakabheed” and “Satashatak”. It is written in Sanskrit language. When Sambhaji wrote this, his age was only 14 years.
