Sambhaji Bhosale (or Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj) was the second ruler of the Maratha Empire and the son of Shivaji. He is considered to be the strongest rival of Aurangzeb. He had established his authority over Bijapur and Golconda, two important forts of the Mughal Empire. Sambhaji is known for his bravery. Despite the cruelty of Aurangzeb, Sambhaji did not convert his religion. Eventually, at the age of 31, Aurangzeb got Sambhaji murdered.
At the coronation of Shivaji Maharaj on June 6, 1674, he was declared the prince of the Maratha Empire. As a prince, Sambhaji proved his bravery and military talent. He won his first battle at the age of 16 at Ramnagar. As a child, he was called Chhava which means child of the lion.
When Shivaji died, Sambhaji was kept captive in the Panhala Fort. After this, Sambhaji’s stepmother, Sorabai had made her 10-year-old son Rajaram the heir to the Maratha kingdom and as soon as Sambhaji got the news, after hearing this, she captured the Panhala fort and formalized with 20,000 soldiers. ascended the throne
The death of Sambhaji Maharaj was a brutal event. Aurangzeb captured Sambhaji and his friend and humiliated them in many ways.
